BLUDO’S BBQ 11/01/2022
When change is the one constant in this life, you have to find things you can rely on. Like good friends & one 28 year old british singer.
After a failed attempt to buy multicolored feather boa’s (there is a city-wide boa shortage due to Harry’s residency at the Kia Forum) we enjoyed a family meal at Bludso’s. The feeling of going out to eat always feels special and out of the ordinary in such a good way.
People talk a lot of shit about parasocial relationships & bonding with celebrities who you realistically know nothing about, but there is something to be said about the consistency of an artist in your life for 10+ years. It’s like the relaxing drawl of falling asleep with the TV on to the same show every once in a while. Sometimes you don’t even notice it’s in the background, but when you need it, it quiets the rest of the noise of the world.
But what would the enjoyment of said artist even be if it was not shared? It’s been 10+ years of Harry, but also 10+ of bonding with friends over Harry, making new friends because of Harry, the mutual love for him being inherent to the joy in the consumption of his music, merchandise, and reminiscence.
“This music will not be remembered as particularly innovative. These stadium tours will be eclipsed; these chart records will inevitably be broken. The legacy is something else: the people who took the paragon of a commercial product and made it the foundational text of a new kind of culture. Their indefatigable belief that the dull, senseless pain of modern life could be undone - the world remade in the likeness of a pop song.” - Kaitlin Tiffany on One Direction
